W.I.K.'s "Clean Sweep" will take care of all your virus and adware problems.

We'll clean your computer of viruses, spyware, and adware so you can be sure your computer is virus-free. After that it's up to you to make sure new viruses don't get a hold on your system. Here are some recommendations:

To keep your computer clean and secure follow these recommendations:

1.) Regularly Update your Norton Antivirus Virus Definitions.
By default we install Norton to run live update automatically whenever you are online, but in our experience it helps to make sure your definitions are updated by running live update manually at least once a week. To do this:

1. Make sure you are connected to the internet.
2. Open Norton Antivirus by clicking the icon in your start up tray (located in the lower right hand corner of your screen.) It looks like this :
3. On the Main Screen for Norton click the “Live Update” Button located in the upper left corner.
4. Follow the on screen instructions to download and install the new virus
definitions. (This may require a re-start)
5. When live update runs automatically it will pop-up the live update window and prompt you to click through the download process . This is not an ad, and it is very important to make sure your definitions are up to date. We recommend you always complete this process when it appears. Without current virus definitions your computer is vulnerable to attack.

2.) Be Sure To Scan Your Computer With Norton Antivirus On A Regular Basis
By default we schedule Norton to scan automatically on a regular basis, but if your computer is not on at the scheduled time the scan can not take place. We recommend you do a manual scan at least once a week. To do this:

1. Open Norton Antivirus.
2. On the main screen for Norton click the “Full System Scan” option.
3. You can try to continue working while Norton Scans, but this has been known to cause occasional problems on certain computers so we recommend you wait until the scan completes.

3.) While Norton AntiVirus 2004 now detects spy ware and adware (programs that are not viruses but can cause virus-like symptoms) it doesn’t always find them all and removal can be an involved process. We recommend you download and install a spy ware/adware removal utility such as Ad-aware, or Spybot search and destroy for these problems.

These programs can be found on-line at a reputable web site such as www.tucows.com, or www.downloads.com. These programs are freeware, meaning they are free to download and use, but also come with no guaranties or quality control. The two we have mentioned are trusted by WIK and widely used. Please be sure to read their information carefully before installing and using them. Like antivirus programs these tools must be updated and used to be of any value.

CAUTION: some free programs (including some versions of KaZaa) use adware to support their being free and may not work if their adware components are removed.
